Sony Vaio P Mini Notebook Computer

Vaio P has 3G technology for high-speed mobile broadband Internet access, GPS support, the XrossMediaBar function for instant access to your favorite applications, an Intel Atom Z530 processor, 2GB system memory, 128GB Solid State Drive, WWANWLAN, Bluetooth, a built-in Motion Eye web camera and the 8-inch widescreen X-black LED-backlit LCD display with a high-resolution of 1600 x 768 pixels, all weighing only 640 grams.
Available in red, dark green, black and white, with a stylish carrying case and a Bluetooth wireless mouse, the Vaio P mini notebook computer will surely be among the most wanted laptops this year, even if the price is of about $1,670.
Starting next month it will be available in stores across UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia.

Laptops from Sony are known to be the coolest looking laptops in the market. The VAIO Mini with its slim and sleek design can fit into your pocket as the TV ad suggests. Hence, it has gained the label of being a “Ultraportable Lifestyle PC” rather than an ordinary notebook. Even Apple is known to borrow some design concepts from VAIO. So we thought of having a go at it and understand is it all smoke or really a fire that burns.

Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo has discloed that the Apple folks are planning to build a mini version of  iPad that would have a smaller screen size falling in anywhere between 5 to 7 inch. The analyst got this information thanks to an interesting conversation with the component providers. The smaller version of iPad is expected to hit the market in Q1 of 2011 with price tag expected to be less than $400. Main audience of this device will be the folks who tend to use be more into reading activities rather than writing.  This news is yet to get the official status, so you can pretty safely regard it as a rumor. However the question that arises here is do we really need a smaller iPad?
iLounge reports about the potential of a new mini iPad coming:
  • They think that new 1.7 inch screen is coming to the iPod Shuffle
  • New iPods coming at some point between Tuesday and September (shocker – there wil be an event in September like the last 5 years).
  • The big deal is that there will be a 7-inch iPad released at that point.  We’ve also heard this and can add that there will be a much higher density screen which will be labeled ”Retina Display” and have something like an insane 1500×1920 type pixel display (think four iPhone 4 screens). We’re hearing front facing camera on this one too.
  • They say the new iPhone 5 has been pushed up to a January release – seems sketchy however.
  • Something about bumpers being updated or something.
iLounge has a pretty good record on these types of leaks. It seems like the gap between the iPad and iPhone is getting smaller and smaller

MINI APPLE LAPTOP

Watching thіѕ clip of then two-year οld Bridger working аn iPad effortlessly as іf іt wаѕ second nature tο him gave me a pause. Hіѕ dad Mike says that “hіѕ speech, understanding, word recognition, аnd even hand eye coordination hаνе improved within just a short whіlе.” Bridger οftеn cracks a smile, hіѕ eyes lighting up with excitement when exploring thе device. Tο me, thіѕ is why Apple’s winning – they own thеѕе toddlers. A new generation of kids are growing up as wе speak with аn iPad etched in thеіr memory. for me аnd уου, іt wаѕ a SNES οr probably οld school plastic elephants, turtles аnd giraffes. for уουr kids, іt’s a…
The long loved Apple Mac Mini has been redesigned and taken on a new Unibody aluminium enclosure. Along with this design change it has taken on some new power boosts and other major features.
It seems that Apple is still the only computer maker who still does not have a current mini laptop on their books. It seems that they could be missing out of some serious business, as the likes of Dell and Asus who have really jumped onto the mobile computing band wagon are proving. But once again, the rumour mill is full of an Apple mini laptop being launched; it is supposed to be smaller and lighter than the smallest laptop in the Apple, but slightly larger than the iPhone. Which puts this new device right in the mini laptop zone. All we have to do is wait for the announcement when it comes.

Multi-Touch.
Everything’s at your fingertips.

Technology is at its best when it feels completely natural, almost like there’s no technology at all. That’s Multi-Touch on iPad. You use your fingers to do everything, so everything you do — surfing the web, typing email, reading books, and swiping through photos — is easier and a lot more fun. How does it work? When your fingers touch the display, it senses them using electrical fields. Then it instantly transforms your taps, swipes, pinches, and flicks into lifelike actions. Just like that.

iOS 4.
The world’s most advanced mobile operating system.

iOS 4 is the operating system for iPad (along with iPhone and iPod touch). It lets you browse, read, and see everything just by touching the screen. It includes all the powerful, innovative, and fun built-in apps you use every day, many times a day. And it’s the platform on which more than 65,000 other amazing apps have been created for iPad. It’s highly secure, stable, and responsive, and it’s made to work seamlessly with the iPad hardware. iOS 4 is the reason no other device has yet come close to iPad.

APPLE I -PAD

Thinner, lighter, and
full of great ideas.

Once you pick up iPad 2, it’ll be hard to put down. That’s the idea behind the all-new design. It’s 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands.2 And it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there’s incredible technology under your fingers.

LED-backlit display.
The view is amazing.

iPad is one big, beautiful display — 9.7 inches of high-resolution photos, movies, web pages, books, and more. LED backlighting makes everything you see remarkably crisp, vivid, and bright. Even in places with low light, like an airplane. And there’s no wrong way to hold iPad. It’s designed to show off everything in portrait and landscape, so with every turn (even upside down), the display adjusts to fit. Because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. Hold it up to someone across the room, or share it with someone sitting next to you, and everyone gets a brilliant view

HP Japan presents their new line of notebooks which don't have any touchpad but a point stick, Compaq NC2400. How many people will actually use the small blue stick to navigate around the screen? Not me, I'm using a Dell Latitude D600 which comes with a point stick as well but I just have never used it. The NC2400 sports a 12.1-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen with resolutions of 1280 x 800 and the whole system is powered by ultra-low voltage edition Intel Core Solo U1400 1.2GHz processor running on Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. It also features 512MB DDR2-SDRAM, Mobile Intel 945Gm Express chipset and 60GB 4200rpm HDD with SMART capability. Conveniently, a fingerprint reader is also integrated for quickly logging into your system or Web-based accounts. For additional peace of mind, the nifty system has a Trusted Platform Module (TPM). TPM is a hardware component that encrypts passwords and security keys that are of cos better than the competitive protection Microsoft Windows alone offer. On the connectivity side, it has a built-in fingerprint sensor, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Not just that, it also has a built-in fingerprint certification sensor. On the surface, it has a Type 2 PC card slot, IEEE 1394 FireWire, two USB 2.0 and mini D-Sub 15 pin. The brightest spot in the NC4200's performance is its stellar battery life. HP offers three battery configurations: a three-cell, six-cell, and nine-cell battery. Compaq NC2400 weighs 1.29kg with the size of 285 x 213 x 25 mm. It is now available in the primary Jaapn market with the floating base configuration price of 157,500Yen which is about USD1,358.

Dell's Inspiron Mini 12

Dell's new Mini 12. We assume the pen is there for scale.
(Credit: Dell) We first got a glimpse of Dell's 12-inch take on the Netbook behind closed doors a few months ago. After that, it kind of vanished from our radar screens, only to pop up Sunday, in an announcement that the system is making its debut in Japan.
It's an interesting hybrid of the ultraportable and Netbook formats, combining a 12-inch laptop chassis with the basic heart of a Netbook, namely the Intel Atom CPU. Most Netbooks have a 9- or 10-inch display, so the jump to 12 inches makes for a very different experience. Less portable, to be sure, but perhaps just big enough to win over those who say tiny Netbooks are too small and too hard to use, even for a quick trip to the coffee shop. Even with the bigger footprint, it still starts at 2.7 pounds and tapers from 0.92 to 1.09 inches.
We're already big fans of Dell's current Netbook, the Inspiron Mini 9--it's pretty much the same as almost every other Netbook out there, but Dell offers more configuration options than most. The new 12-inch version has a few notable differences--the hard drives are traditional 60GB and 80GB platter drives, not the SSD drives found in the Mini 9, and the OS choices have been expanded from XP and Ubuntu Linux to also include Windows Vista Basic (in fact, Vista Basic is the launch OS, XP and Linux are expected by the end of the year).
At first, the Mini 12 is only going to be available at select retail outlets in Japan, but it should show up stateside by late November, for less than $600.

Acer Aspire 5742

The 2.5GHz Intel Core i3-370M processor is second only to the Medion Akoya P6624's Core i5-460M in terms of clock speed. This helps the Acer Aspire 5742 to achieve a highly creditable 102 points in WorldBench 6, beating all but the aforementioned Medion model.
While the Acer Aspire 5742's 48Wh battery is of only average capacity it manages to outlast every other laptop in this roundup, staying up and running for an impressive five hours (307 minutes) when running MobileMark 2007 Productivity test.
For many, these two feats alone will be enough to secure a purchase especially when you consider that the Acer Aspire 5742 can be found online for less than £450.
While it is possible to pay even less for another model, you’ll have to make some serious compromises. For example, Advent’s similarly-priced Sienna 510 offers similar performance but less than half the battery life, while the Toshiba Satellite-C660D-10W at £380 can struggle when faced with more demanding computing tasks.
Of course, at this price you won’t be getting premium features such as a discrete graphics chip. Like many other budget laptops the Acer Aspire 5742 relies on the Core i3’s built-in graphics processing. This is more than adequate for the majority of non-gaming tasks.
In construction, the Acer Aspire 5742 is smart if a little unimpressive. It’s a far cry from Lenovo’s IdeaPad Z560 M37AFUK in terms of style, but its textured lid and svelte proportions make the most of the lower-cost materials used.
Acer’s usual ‘lilypad’ keyboard has no dedicated special function keys, but is easy to type on and is accompanied by a smooth recessed muti-gesture trackpad with a single button which tilts to provide left and right clicks.
Three USB ports are provided on the Acer Aspire 5742-374G32Mnkk, two of which are right at the front for easy access, along with an SD/SDHC memory card reader.
Built-in sound is limited to a single mono speaker, so if you plan on listening to music you may be better off using earphones or external speakers.
Looks like Dell has accidentally spilled out details of the Inspiron 1545 laptop via the support pages of their website. The new notebook is a considerably updated version of the Inspiron 1525 and 1526 with a tad larger screen, a powerful processor, a new chipset, and a Blu-Ray drive.

Full specifications include a 15.6-inch widescreen display, a Core 2 Duo processor onboard with a maximum clock speed of 2.53 Mhz, an Intel Cantiga GM45 chipset, a 4GB RAM (DDR2 800MHz), and Intel GMA handling the graphics department. There's also an optional Blu-Ray burner, Wi-Fi, 3 USB/1 VGA ports, an Express Card slot, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, LAN, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, and an 8-in-1 card reader. Windows Vista or Ubuntu Linux are the OS options.

Dell Inspiron 1545

In these financially troubled times, the budget sector is more important than ever. Considering it's a notebook from the world's third-largest PC manufacturer, Dell's Inspiron 1545 (also known as the Inspiron 15) has a lot to live up to, especially since the last Inspiron we had through our labs, the Inspiron 1525, walked away with our coveted Recommended Award. Let's find out if the 1545 is worthy of similar praise.

As with many new budget notebooks, Dell's latest is available in a few different colours if purchased direct. Matte Black is standard, but for an extra £29.99 you can choose Microsatin Blue, Red or Pacific High-Gloss Blue lids. Not exactly much choice, especially given Dell's usually prolific customisation options, but any choice is better than none. Our particular model, available from PC World for £429.99, came with a blue 'high-gloss' lid. While not quite as bad as piano black at showing fingerprints, it will still require regular attention and there is no cloth provided for this.

Dell Inspiron 14R (model N4010)
Dell has assembled a slick update to the Inspiron line that, despite a few shortcomings, will let students and home users do anything they need to without breaking the bank.
I quite like the dull black on my Vostro. These look alright but can’t see any on the UK site. I sometimes get the feeling that fancy designs on laptops are like “go faster stripes”.

Unorthodox, adventurous contemporary art meets on-the-go technology with the inaugural Special Art Edition Inspiron 1525 laptop, featuring two exclusive artworks by Mike Ming.
Choose from “Bunch O Surfers” or “Sea Sky,” two unique designs that reflect Mike Ming’s quest to create art that relates to broad audiences, yet speaks directly to everyone.
The laptops are available for order today, starting at $699, at www.dell.com/art.
A new Dell manufacturing technique brings alive every color and brushstroke on the laptop’s cover, creating a fluid, graffiti-inspired tattoo effect that lets style pioneers add another level of individuality to everyday life.
The Inspiron 1525 is up to 25 percent smaller, thinner and almost a half a pound lighter than its predecessor. Consumers on the go will appreciate all of the optional wireless features that help them stay connected, whether it’s at the desk, in a room, around the house or just about anywhere in a wireless network.1
Brooklyn-based artist Mike Ming (born Michael Miyahira) brings fascination with popular culture and life experiences to the canvas. “I wanted to create a sense of energy, playfulness, sophistication and psychedelic momentum when I started this,” said Ming. “This new technique from Dell brings my inspiration—water and the energy it produces—to life and gives computer aficionados their own display of style.”
“Our customers have asked that we continue to look at other areas of life, apart from technology, to help bring a sense of uniqueness to their computers,” said Ed Boyd, vice president of Consumer Experience Design at Dell. “Mike Ming and the other artists in the series represent the shift in the level of customer design input, a trend we’re excited to see continue.”
